Tech Tuesday - Are blockchains really useful?

Welcome to listen to Jonathan Jogenfors at Sectra’s Tech Tuesday in Creactive, Mjärdevi. Jonathan, who is Research Manager at Sectra Communications and postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Electrical Engineering at Linköping University, will show what the blockchain technology can and (more importantly!) can’t do. In addition, he will discuss the threat of quantum computers to both cryptocurrencies and the Internet.

Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies have had a remarkable growth in the last decade. Even more interesting, however, is the blockchain, the technology that makes cryptocurrencies tick. Without having to trust a third party, peers can transfer money, write self-enforcing digital contracts, run applications, and much more. But the blockchain is controversial as it requires huge amounts of energy and is often part of criminal investigations into money laundering and illicit drugs trade.
